Truck Town Thunder hosts a Junior FIRST Lego League (Jr.FLL) competition each year. Jr.FLL is a league made to inspire six to nine year olds in the fields of Science, Technology, and Engineering. Each year, a new challenge is created to inspire youth to come up with a creative solution to a real world issue. For example, this year’s challenge topic  food safety, called Snack Attack.

Teams take a "hands on" approach to the topic by exploring how proper preparation and storage can help keep us healthy. Each Jr.FLL team has to create a model representing what they learned about food safety using simple machine using LEGO ramps, levers, pulleys, gears, wheels and axles, screws, or wedges. Students on our team walk around and talk to teams about their model and what they learned.

DSC 0102At the end of the competition we hand out awards to each team. Our team members learn how to communicate with kids and teach them about FIRST. As a team we learn to work together to organize and budget a major event. FIRST Team 68 strives to spread the word of FIRST and really enjoys running this event every year.

Jr Truck Town Thunder has been working with younger kids to inspire them to become part of an FRC team when they are older. Truck Town Thunder hosts a Junior Lego League Competition annually at the Huron Valley Expo located in Lakeland High School. In June, Truck Town Thunder hosts Truck Town's Thundering Lego Robotics Camp at Brandon High School. At the camp, T3 team members help teach 8-14 year olds how to build and program Lego Mindstorms NXT robots. Campers are exposed to engineering skill in order to encourage STEM at a young age. Truck Town Thunder also mentors an FLL team, the Brandon Wolf Pack.
