Week 5 of Build Season
Truck Town Thunder has been able to come up with a creative new design for a shooter wheel this year. The team was just not satisfied with the performance of the wheels that were available and wanted to innovate a wheel that would be more effective. Utilizing Reoflex Polyurethane, a mold developed in Week 4 and a 6″ Vexpro wheel, the team poured it’s own custom wheel to use for shooting Frisbees. This allowed the team to pour the wheel in the shape of the edge of the Frisbee and give the wheel the most contact with the Frisbee. This resulted in numerous successful trials and after a couple of prototypes we were able to achieve the wheel we wanted. The team strives every year to be innovative and come up with ways to improve our performance and this is an example of the ways FIRST has inspired our team to be creative.
Truck Town Thunder Robotics has been asked by Harvey Swanson Elementary school to host three sessions at their Festival of Science on February 22. T3’s Entrepreneurship sub-team has been planning sessions on Lego Mindstorms Robotics and Knex Invention. Student team members are planning, instructing and organizing the sessions. Team members learn about curriculum planning and get the opportunity to show their 2012 robot at the festival. Truck Town Thunder is proud of it’s student leaders as they prepare for a great day of learning science at the school.
This week Truck Town Thunder has began to post their accomplishments on the Media section of the website. The content within this section will be to highlight the ways Truck Town utilizes media to promote the team, FIRST and robotics to the world. We have successfully established a significant media presence and have been able to nurture this initiative to new heights Stayed tuned to all of the excellent content coming from this area of the site.
