The Brandon Middle School Robotics Team Receive Top Honors

Ortonville, Michigan, January 14, 2013 – On Saturday, January 12, the Brandon Middle School Robotics Teams, VEX Team 6868a and 6868b, brought home top honors at the Oakland County Competitive Robotics Association Middle School County Championship. Brandon Middle School received the Beautiful Bot Award and the Gracious Professionalism Award. The team was also awarded the Outstanding STEM Program which the highest award given at the event. The two teams designed and built two very competitive robots to compete in the VEX Robotics Challenge Sack Attack. VEX Sack Attack is played on a 12’x12’ square field configured as seen above. Two alliances – one β€œred” and one β€œblue” – composed of two teams each, compete in matches consisting of a fifteen second autonomous period followed by one minute and forty-five seconds of driver- controlled play. The object of the game is to attain a higher score than the opposing Alliance by Scoring Sacks and Bonus Sacks in your colored Floor Goals, Troughs and High Goal, and by having the most Robots of your color Parked at the end of the Match.
OCCRA generates enthusiasm for technical and academic disciplines such as design, engineering, physics, and electronics. These competitions provide recognition and encouragement for students who devote their energies to these areas of studies. OCCRA participants will also have the opportunity to learn more about the diverse technical career options available in our county and state.
